Balancing Carrier Cooling in InN/GaN Quantum Wells via Point Defect Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Nitrogen vacancies in the InN/GaN interface regulate carrier relaxation in polar quantum wells by reconstructing the conduction‐band decay pathway and enhancing nonadiabatic coupling. No deep midgap state is introduced in the neutral single‐vacancy model, enabling faster hot‐electron cooling, improved electron‐hole balance, reduced electron overflow ...

Impact of coarse sediment supply from hillslopes to the channel in runoff-dominated, dryland fluvial systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Sediment supply from hillslopes to channels is an important control on basin functioning and evolution. However, current theoretical frameworks do not adequately consider processes of runoff-driven hillslope sediment supply, which affect river channels ...

Urban sediment in infiltration wells: A lesson from the northern area of greater Yogyakarta city

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Geography, 2019
The development of housing in Yogyakarta eventually led to increased levels of runoff. To mitigate runoff increases, infiltration wells were constructed in a specific network. The northern part of Yogyakarta is now facing urbanization, and there are many

Alternative Policy Designs to Help Farmers Select Profitable Conservation Practices

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Voluntary private carbon initiatives (VPCIs) promote the implementation of agricultural conservation practices that mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) via financial incentives to participating farmers. Simultaneously, an array of public policies supports the adoption of conservation practices through technical and financial ...

Accelerating Phosphate Transport Across Membranes via Synergistic Chemical‐Electrochemical Carriers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A new membrane design principle based on synergistic chemical and electrochemical carriers is proposed to construct an electro‐driven carrier‐conducting membrane for high‐throughput phosphate transport. Monodispersed ferrihydrite nanoparticles embedded within the membrane act as built‐in phosphate carriers, enabling accelerated phosphate migration via ...

Cost‐Benefit Analysis of the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism in Fertilizer Trade

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM), launching 2026, will charge EU importers for embedded carbon emissions, aiming to reduce emissions but raising import costs. Shifts in demand following implementation may reduce carbon emissions, but importers will bear the cost of increased prices.

On‐Demand Deconstructable Thermosets Through Cleavable Comonomer and Thermolatent Base Synergy

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Thermosets, valued for their chemical and mechanical properties, resist recycling due to their cross‐linked structure. Weak bonds via comonomers enable degradability, but diffusion limits effectiveness. We incorporate thermolatent bases before polymerization (thermal or 3D‐VAT printing).

Runoff on rooted trees [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Probability, 2019
AbstractWe introduce an idealised model for overland flow generated by rain falling on a hillslope. Our prime motivation is to show how the coalescence of runoff streams promotes the total generation of runoff. We show that, for our model, as the rate of rainfall increases in relation to the soil infiltration rate there is a distinct phase change.

Toward Knowledge‐Guided AI for Inverse Design in Manufacturing: A Perspective on Domain, Physics, and Human–AI Synergy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights how knowledge‐guided artificial intelligence can address key challenges in manufacturing inverse design, including high‐dimensional search spaces, limited data, and process constraints. It focused on three complementary pillars—expert‐guided problem definition, physics‐informed machine learning, and large language model ...

Mobilização do solo, erosão e produtividade de milho e feijão em um regossolo no agreste pernambucano Soil mobilization, erosion and corn and bean yields in a regosol on the pernambuco state dry area
