Comparison of planted soil infiltration systems for treatment of log yard runoff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Treatment of log yard runoff is required to avoid contamination of receiving watercourses. The research aim was to assess if infiltration of log yard runoff through planted soil systems is successful and if different plant species affect the treatment

Integrating ZnO/Ag2O@g‐C3N4‐Based Nanocomposites Into a Carrageenan Matrix to Efficiently Remove Heavy Metals From Water

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This research focused on characterizing graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) nanocomposites incorporated with ZnO and Ag2O nanoparticles, and carrageenan to remove heavy metals. The ZnO/Ag2O@ g‐C3N4 and ZnO/Ag2O/g‐C3N4@Carr nanocomposites demonstrated thermal stability of 97.40% (108.81°C) and 82.80% (188.99°C) for TGA.

Modelling runoff and erosion in agricultural soil: application of ICECREAM model to a field site in southern Finland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The hydrological submodel of ICECREAM, which is the Finnish version of CREAMS/GLEAMS model was calibrated and validated against surface runoff and snow water equivalent data from a sloping clayey field under small grain crop cultivation.

Cap‐oPMN: Oral Inflammatory Load Quantification Using Capillary Microfluidics and Automated Image Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Quantifying oral polymorphonuclear neutrophils (oPMNs) is a clinically validated approach for assessing periodontal inflammation. However, current methods, such as manual hemocytometry and flow cytometry, are time‐consuming (>3 h), require invasive sampling, and depend on staining and complex instrumentation, making them unsuitable for point ...

Surface roughness effects on runoff and soil erosion rates under simulated rainfall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Soil surface roughness is identified as one of the controlling factors governing runoff and soil loss. Yet, most studies pay little attention to soil surface roughness.

Evidence for global runoff increase related to climate warming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Ongoing global climatic change initiated by the anthropogenic release of carbon dioxide is a matter of intense debate. We focus both on the impact of these climatic changes on the global hydrological cycle and on the amplitude of the increase of global ...

A Compact Incubation Platform for Long‐Term Cultivation of Biological Samples for Nitrogen‐Vacancy Center Widefield Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A compact incubation platform enables long‐term cultivation of biological samples directly on diamond quantum sensors for NV widefield magnetometry. The 3D‐printed biocompatible chamber provides a temperature controlled, CO2${\rm CO}_2$ and humidity rich environment while accommodating total internal reflection excitation geometry.

A Review Of Road‒Related Soil Erosion: An Assessment Of Causes, Evaluation Techniques And Available Control Measures

open access: yesEarth Sciences Research Journal, 2015
Road construction has increased significantly worldwide in the last decades to meet the demands of the increasing human population and this has led to serious soil erosion problems, the bulk of which is unaccounted for, especially in the developing world.

Fabrication and evaluation of a reservoir tillage machine to reduce runoff from farms with sprinkler irrigation systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Machinery, 2016
Introduction Nowadays, in a lot of farm land due to reasons such as high density, heavy textured soils, steep terrain and a large body of water at each irrigation, rapid and complete absorption of water in the soil does not happen and runoff will be ...
