Reconstructing Long‐Term Historical Hydrologic Alteration to Support Environmental Flows in Texas

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding and quantifying hydrologic alteration is essential for effective watershed management and ecological conservation. This study developed a modeling framework to predict reference hydrology and assess and model hydrologic alteration across Texas using publicly available geospatial datasets.

Characteristics and Controlling Factors of the Drought Runoff Coefficient

open access: yesCharacteristics and Controlling Factors of the Drought Runoff Coefficient
Increasing water demand due to population growth, economic development, and changes in rainfall patterns due to climate change are likely to alter the duration and magnitude of droughts. Understanding the relationship between low-flow conditions and controlling factors relative to the magnitude of a drought is important for establishing sustainable ...

Evaluating land–sea linkages using land cover change and coral reef monitoring data: A case study from northeastern Puerto Rico

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Land cover change that leads to increased nutrient and sediment runoff is an important driver of change in coral reef ecosystems. In this study, we combined satellite remote sensing and field monitoring to assess concomitant changes in watershed land cover and coral cover in northeastern Puerto Rico in 2000–2015.

Identification of initial vegetation and habitat changes in small temperate fens using remote sensing

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Temperate fens with only incipient, subtle signs of deterioration can be reliably identified using Sentinel‐2 and aerial imagery, which sensitively detect early productivity‐related structural changes. Abstract Small temperate fens rank among the most endangered habitats in temperate Europe.
