Hypogammaglobulinemia and hypoalbuminemia in neonates with ruptured omphaloceles and gastroschisis

Abstract Infants born with ruptured omphaloceles have significantly decreased levels of total serum proteins, albumin, immunoglobulin G, and transferrin. The most likely explanation of these findings is the loss of serum into amniotic fluid from the peritoneal surfaces of the exposed viscera.

A baby was born at a primary healthcare with multiple congenital anomalies, which included ruptured omphalocele, cloacal exstrophy, and congenital talipes equinovarus. Intra Venous line was obtained, and the baby was stabilized. The baby was referred to a tertiary health care and underwent surgery to close the defect, ileostomy, and mucous fistula.
