Single–Atom Iron Sites Enable Enhanced Arsenic Removal From Water Through Synergistic Adsorption–Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single–atom iron anchored on nitrogen–doped porous biochar exhibited ultra–efficient performance, exceptional environmental resilience, and integrated adsorption–oxidation functionality. The multifunctional architecture of the support and the unparalleled reactivity of single–atom iron underpinned the cooperative adsorption and oxidation of As(III ...

Farmland Acquisition and Household Livelihoods in Hanoi's Peri-Urban Areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
While farmland loss (due to urbanisation and industrialisation) causes job losses for a huge number of farmers and threatens food security, it can bring about a wide range of new job opportunities for local people through which they can change their ...

Functional Sex Reversal in Adult Gonochoristic Teleosts is Mediated by Ovarian Germline Stem Cell Plasticity and Somatic Cell Transdifferentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oocytes play crucial roles in maintaining ovarian fate in adult gonochoristic fish. Targeted oocyte ablation with aromatase inhibition triggers the activation of surviving germline stem cells and the transdifferentiation of somatic cells from granoulosa/theca to Sertoli/Leydig lineages, inducing a complete and functional female‐to‐male sex reversal ...

Intangible links between household livelihoods and food security in Solomon Islands: implications for rural development

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2020
Livelihood diversification has been the heartbeat of rural development projects over the past two decades. Many livelihood diversification programs are based on the often implicit assumption that introducing livelihood activities will translate into ...

The Landscape of Long Non‐Coding RNAs Provides Insights Into the Domestication and Improvement of Pear Fruit

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that long non‐coding RNAs represent important regulatory components underlying pear domestication and improvement. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify selected lncRNAs associated with fruit traits, while functional validation uncovers a lignin‐related lncRNA, lncRNA‐pys, that promotes lignin accumulation.

Asymmetric Evolution of Antennal Cell Types Underlies a Derived Ammonia‐Sensing Logic for Ecological Adaptation in Bactrocera dorsalis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative antennal single‐nucleus transcriptomics reveals cell‐type‐dependent transcriptomic divergence in Bactrocera dorsalis, with similar structural cells but divergent sensory neurons. This neuronal diversification is associated with a distinct ammonia‐sensing pathway, linking female attraction to bird‐dropping‐associated cues with nutritional ...

Herbivory‐Induced Stomatal Opening Triggers the Dispersal of an Invasive Insect Herbivore

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The invasive leafminer Phthorimaea absoluta uniquely manipulates plant defenses by inducing stomatal opening in tomato. This response, mediated by the stomatal regulator IQM1, enhances the release of the repellent volatile benzaldehyde. This volatile triggers the dispersal of adult moths, facilitates colonization of new hosts, and leads to rapid ...
