Russian Attitudes Toward the West [PDF]

open access: yes
In the late 1980s, the vast majority of Russians supported pro-Western economic and political transformation. Although transition to market and democracy has eventually delivered economic benefits, most Russians are now skeptical about Western economic ...

Monolayer Amorphous Carbon: Unlocking Disorder‐Induced Lithiophilicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Atomic‐scale disorder in monolayer amorphous carbon generates abundant Li binding sites. Combined contact angle, electrochemical, and Density Functional Theory analyses show how this broad distribution of binding energies lowers the contact angle to around 30°, reduces the nucleation overpotential, and yields uniform lithium deposition.

Repurposing of Chemokine Antagonists for Combined Phase‐Resolved Spinal Cord Injury Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Spinal cord injury (SCI) in mammals is accompanied by a massive cytokine storm in cerebrospinal fluid, mainly driven by CXCL1, IL‐6, and CCL2‐5. Sub‐acute phase is mostly associated with IL‐2, IL‐7, CCL22, and CX3CL1, whereas TNFα and IL17α permanently persists in CNS even weeks following SCI.

Russians from China: Migrations and Identity

open access: yes, 2013
In the first half of the 20th century, sizeable Russian communities lived in a number of Chinese cities, including Harbin, Shanghai and Tientsin. The largest and most diverse of these was the community that grew up around Harbin in north China.

Electronic and Steric Tuning of Molecular Acidity toward Unified Models for Excited State Proton Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional excited‐state proton transfer (ESPT) theories explain the kinetics of fluorescent photoacids, but face challenges for weakly or nonfluorescent ones. This missing link is bridged by making and dissecting series of green fluorescent protein chromophore derivatives with varied photoacidities via strategic substitutions. Structure‐photoacidity

From a restricted to full linguistic space: an ‘affirmative action’ strategy for the Udmurt language [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study analyzes the long-term reasons why Udmurt occupies a restricted linguistic space in the post-Soviet state – the low status of Udmurt, due to Soviet language and other policies; urbanization; population shifts; myths and stereotypes about ...

The Effect of Sensor Response Measurement Techniques on the Sensitivity of Organic Field‐Effect Transistors to NO2

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Organic field‐effect transistor gas sensors were investigated using periodic transfer curves and transient current measurements with pulsed voltages. Their sensitivity was found to depend on the measurement routine, allowing us to propose a detection mechanism.

Dissecting Extreme Price Fluctuations in Mineral Fertilizers: Regularities and Co‐Movements in Light of Global Food Security

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extreme swings in food prices can put food security at risk. Fertilizer prices are among the main drivers of food prices. This work explores the recurrent behavior of the extreme global fertilizer price fluctuations underlying food price dynamics.
