Forest management for wood products involves the conversion of primary forests to younger plantations. This has an immediate impact on biota such as ectomycorrhizal fungi, a diverse symbiotic fungal community. Alternatives to large clearcuts may be one way to mitigate harvesting effects.

Tree diversity and species identity effects on soil fungi, protists and animals are context dependent [PDF]
Plant species richness and the presence of certain influential species (sampling effect) drive the stability and functionality of ecosystems as well as primary production and biomass of consumers. However, little is known about these floristic effects on

Russula (Russulales, Agaricomycetes) associated with Pinus spp. plantations from northeastern Argentina [PDF]
Russula comprises more than 3,000 species worldwide and is a characteristic genus of the coniferous forests of the northern hemisphere. The forest plantations with non-native species in the northeastern Argentina, such as pine or eucalyptus, provide the ...

The shrew Crocidura iculisma has a fragmented distribution limited to southwestern Europe. This study analyzes changes in its geographic distribution including palaeontological and modern data, revealing a significant reduction its range during the Holocene due to competitive exclusion by Crocidura russula and climatic changes.

Phylogenomic species delimitation of the twisted‐winged parasite genus Stylops (Strepsiptera)
With newly generated whole‐genome sequence data, we use 2315 loci to perform species delimitation analyses for the Strepsiptera genus Stylops in the West Palaearctic region. We infer a minimum of 27 different Stylops species, report 35 new host associations and present justification for 10 synonymizations.

Ectomycorrhizal fungi community shift along gradient from forest to clearcut : two field seasons after harvest of old growth Scots pine forests [PDF]
It is known that the number of ECM decline and the community composition is altered by clearcutting. This study aims to investigate impacts at a more detailed scale.
