Abstract The biogenesis, structural diversity and distribution of simple, furano- and pyranocoumarins in the Rutaceae is reviewed. The potential value of these compounds as taxonomic markers and their possible functions are discussed. The distribution of simple cinnamic acid precursors of coumarins in the family is also reviewed.

Phototoxic Furanoquinolines of the Rutaceae
Planta Medica, 1981Dictamnine, isodictamnine, 7-demethylskimmianine, maculosidine and maculine were shown to be phototoxic to certain bacteria and yeasts in long wave UV light. Dose response curves with dictamnine and 8-methoxypsoralen in UV light were compared using E. COLI and SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE.

Phytochemistry of the genus Skimmia (Rutaceae)
Phytochemistry, 2015The genus Skimmia is a rich source of interesting secondary metabolites, including 20 alkaloids derived from anthranilic acid, 45 coumarins, 21 limonoids, four cholestane derivatives, six pentacyclic triterpenes, six flavonoids, and two unusual fatty acid derivatives. Skimmia is employed in folk medicine e.g.

The vascular supply to the ovary of ten plants belonging to nine genera of the Rutaceae is described. The location of the fused carpellary ventrals of the same carpels opposite the loculi inRavenia spectabilis andLuvunga eleutherandra indicates that it is same as in the case of plants with an axile type of placentation. The septal position of the fused

Chemotaxonomy of the rutaceae—II
Tetrahedron, 1967Abstract Leaf extracts of Severinia buxifolia (Poir.) Ten. were found to contain seselin, small amounts of an alkaloid and a new coumarin which was shown by chemical spectroscopic studies to be 5,7-dimethoxy-8-(3′methyl-2′-oxobutyl)coumarin. Extracts of the fruit gave small amounts of seselin, imperatorin, isopimpinelin, bergapten and the same ...
