Conservation-focused mapping of avian migratory routes using a pan-European automated telemetry network. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Accelerated biodiversity loss has destabilized functional links within and between ecosystems. Species that cross different ecosystems during migration between breeding and nonbreeding sites are particularly sensitive to global change because they are exposed to various, often ecosystem‐specific, threats.

Global review of shorebird tracking data to identify research gaps and conservation priorities. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Tracking has enabled rapid advances in knowledge of the movement behavior and habitat use of shorebirds and is thus making a growing contribution to their conservation. However, realizing the full potential that tracking holds for conservation involves understanding what has been performed on shorebirds to date and identifying regional and ...

A network approach to prioritize conservation efforts for migratory birds. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol, 2020
Abstract Habitat loss can trigger migration network collapse by isolating migratory bird breeding grounds from nonbreeding grounds. Theoretically, habitat loss can have vastly different impacts depending on the site's importance within the migratory corridor.

Habitat Changes at the Local Scale Have Major Impacts on Waterfowl Populations Across a Migratory Flyway. [PDF]

open access: yesGlob Chang Biol
Migratory waterbirds are declining worldwide due to habitat loss, but not much is known about how the loss of specific wetlands can affect waterbird populations at the biogeographical scale. To investigate that, we used the Guadalquivir Marshes (SW Spain) as a case study and combined 38 years of waterfowl winter counts with environmental and remote ...

Revista d'investigació i formació en Antropologia, 2023

An emerging coastal wetland management dilemma between mangrove expansion and shorebird conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 36, Issue 5, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Coastal wetlands around the world have been degraded by human activities. Global declines in the extent of important coastal wetlands, including mangroves, salt marshes, and tidal flats, necessitate mitigation and restoration efforts. However, some well‐meaning management actions, particularly mangrove afforestation, can inadvertently cause ...

The beaten paths effect on patient inter‐regional mobility: An application to the Italian NHS

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 945-977, August 2022., 2022
Abstract We study inter‐regional migration flows due to hospital admissions and focus on the impact of migration beaten paths. We estimate a gravity model applied to Italian data for the period 2010–2016. We find that beaten paths have a positive effect on inter‐regional patient flows, with estimated elasticity equal to +0.32%.

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 27, Issue 1-2, Page 37-56, June 2022., 2022

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 22, Issue S5, Octubre 2021., 2021
