Finite element analysis for airfield asphalt pavements rutting prediction

open access: yesBulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences Technical Sciences, 2015
Abstract This paper presents a numerical study of an aircraft wheel impacting on a flexible pavement. The proposed three dimensional model simulates the behaviour of flexible runway pavement during the landing phase. This model was implemented in a finite element code in order to investigate the impact of repeated cycles of loads on pavement ...

Compliance in Regulatory Gray Areas: The Case of the Organic Seed Standard

open access: yesPolicy Studies Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adaptive regulations, designed to balance flexibility with accountability, can embed provisions that unintentionally leave room for firms to shirk on their responsibilities by exploiting flexibility. We call these provisions “regulatory gray areas,” and ask: how should we understand (non‐)compliance in adaptive regulatory settings?

Remote Language Assessment in School‐Age Children With Phelan–McDermid Syndrome and Genotype–Phenotype Correlation

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 200, Issue 8, Page 1764-1772, August 2026.
ABSTRACT People with Phelan–McDermid syndrome (PMS) have reduced speech and language abilities, yet little research has profiled the communication abilities in this population. The purpose of this study was threefold: identifying the language and communication profiles of school‐aged children with PMS, identifying genetic contributions to language and ...

Comparison of Different Methods for the Meta‐Analysis of Diagnostic Test Accuracy Studies—A Simulation Study

open access: yesBiometrical Journal, Volume 68, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Meta‐analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies aggregates information from multiple studies on sensitivity and specificity. Classical approaches select a single pair of sensitivity and specificity per study (single threshold methods, STM), ignoring additional information if studies report results on multiple diagnostic thresholds. Recently,

Evaluating novel attachment methods for tracking devices on terrestrial mammals

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
We deployed GNSS tracking devices on 2 endangered large terrestrial mammals, scimitar‐horned oryx and Przewalski's horses, using novel attachment methods. Tags achieved fix success rates and spatial accuracy that compare well with standard collars used on large mammals.

Reverse‐engineering psychological resilience: A review and quantitative evaluation of psychometric instruments used in resilience research

open access: yesApplied Psychology: Health and Well-Being, Volume 18, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Discussions on what psychological resilience is, its operationalizations, and approaches to measuring it have occupied the scientific community for decades. This manuscript (1) provides an overview of psychometric methods used to assess resilience, including key characteristics, and (2) evaluates resilience scales through a preregistered ...

Fatigue and Rutting Performance of FAA and Conventional Asphalt Mixture Systems

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 8, Page 3500-3511, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study evaluates the laboratory fatigue and rutting performance of two specification‐compliant asphalt mixture systems: an FAA‐compliant airfield mixture designed according to FAA AC 150/5370‐10H and a conventional highway mixture designed according to the Turkish General Directorate of Highways requirements.

Vehicle tracks in the UK uplands vary in occurrence with land use and overlap with peatlands and protected areas

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 3, July–September 2026.
Surfaced vehicle tracks are widespread across GB uplands, yet their extent and environmental footprint have until now been poorly quantified. Using remote sensing and a semi‐automated detection model (F1 = 84.3%), we mapped over 5190 km of hill track, finding density highest in wind farm and grouse moor landscapes and with over 2500 km overlapping ...

Never … Often? Comparisons That Shape People's Likert‐Type Ratings of Behavior Frequencies

open access: yesJournal of Behavioral Decision Making, Volume 39, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Responses to Likert‐type behavioral frequency (LBF) questions often do not consistently map onto objective numerical estimates. Prior research suggests that social and other comparisons may underlie this divergence, but the relative influence of different comparison standards—and the cognitive processes supporting them—remains unclear.
