First account of the metazoan parasite fauna of oilfish Ruvettus pretiosus Cocco, 1829 (Perciformes: Gempylidae) in South African waters

open access: closedAfrican Zoology, 2017
Parasites are an important but neglected component of ecosystems that can be used as indicators of host biology and ecology. In the present study, the metazoan parasite assemblage of Ruvettus pretiosus, an understudied but widely distributed predatory gempylid, caught off South Africa was surveyed.

Length-length and length-weight relationships of oilfish (Ruvettus pretiosus), escolar (Lepidocybium flavobrunneum), snake mackerel (Gempylus serpens), and longnose lancetfish (Alepisaurus ferox) from the Gulf of Mexico and the western North Atlantic Ocea

open access: closedJournal of Applied Ichthyology, 2013
Summary Oilfish, escolar, snake mackerel (order Aulopiformes, family Gempylidae), and longnose lancetfish (order Perciformes, family Alepisauridae) sampled from the western North Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico were analyzed for length–weight and length–length relationships.

Detection of the causal agents of Keriorrhea (Lepidocybium flavobrunneum and Ruvettus pretiosus) by means of Real Time PCR

open access: closedFood Chemistry, 2014
Consumption of Lepidocybium flavobrunneum and Ruvettus pretiosus is related with the gastrointestinal disease called Keriorrhea. Sometimes, intentionally or not, these species are mislabelled as other harmless species, causing severe disruptions to consumers. The correct identification of these species helps to avoid food fraud and health problems. For
