Occurrence of the oilfish Ruvettus pretiosus (Osteichthyes: Gempylidae) off southern Tunisian coast (Central Mediterranean)

A specimen of oilfish Ruvettus pretiosus Cocco, 1829 was recorded for the first time in the Tunisian waters, and probably off the Maghreb shore. The specimen was caught off the southern coast of Tunisia close to the Libyan border. The specimen was immature; it measured 1220 mm in total length and weighed 21750 g.
