A four-body classical-trajectory Monte Carlo method has been applied to Rydberg-atom-Rydberg-atom scattering problems. Numerical calculations were conducted over the velocity range ve/3 to 3v2 where v2(au)=1/n and n is the principal quantum number of the Rydberg atom.

Rydberg Atoms in Curved Space-Time

The possible use of loosely bound Rydberg atoms for remote gravimetric measurements is explored. The first-order corrections to the nonrelativistic nS and nP states for ng2 are obtained for the first time. A procedure to evaluate corrections of any order is outlined and applied to the 1S state in a spherical symmetry.

Squeezing with Rydberg Atoms

Abstract It is shown that some 17 Rydberg Na atoms initially placed into a coherent atomic state and super-radiating into a low-Q microwave cavity at temperatures T ≲ 0·4 K will show modest squeezing in the fluorescence field, the squeezing arising from terms oscillating at twice the cavity frequency.

Measurement of the Rydberg Constant with Trapped Rydberg Atoms

A measurement of the Rydberg constant using cold circular Rydberg atoms is proposed. Since these atoms have long lifetimes, negligible quantum electrodynamics and no nuclear-overlap corrections, the measurement can shed new light on the “proton radius puzzle”. The atoms are trapped in an optical lattice.
