Search for high-frequency gravitational waves with Rydberg atoms
We propose high-frequency gravitational wave (GW) detectors with Rydberg atoms. Rydberg atoms are ultra-sensitive detectors of electric fields. By setting up a constant magnetic field, a weak electric field is generated upon the arrival of GWs.

Rydberg Interaction-Induced Distortion of the Autler–Townes Spectra in Cold Lithium Atoms
In this article, effects of the strong long-range interaction of Rydberg atoms on the Autler–Townes splitting spectrum are investigated. Preliminary results are obtained for various excitation times and Rydberg atom densities.

Coherent excitation of ultracold atoms between ground and Rydberg states [PDF]
This thesis describes the development of an experiment to study coherent population transfer between ground states, and between ground and Rydberg states, in ultracold atoms.

Dynamical crystal creation with polar molecules or Rydberg atoms in optical lattices
We investigate the dynamical formation of crystalline states with systems of polar molecules or Rydberg atoms loaded into a deep optical lattice. External fields in these systems can be used to couple the atoms or molecules between two internal states ...

Magnetic trapping of strongly-magnetized Rydberg atoms [PDF]
Effective magnetic moments of drift Rydberg atoms instrong magnetic fields are obtained for different energy andangular-momentum states. Classical two-body trajectorycalculations and quantum-mechanical one-body calculations areemployed.

Advancing Energy Materials by In Situ Atomic Scale Methods
Progress in in situ atomic scale methods leads to an improved understanding of new and advanced energy materials, where a local understanding of complex, inhomogeneous systems or interfaces down to the atomic scale and quantum level is required. Topics from photovoltaics, dissipation losses, phase transitions, and chemical energy conversion are ...

Nondestructive Optical Readout and Manipulation of Circular Rydberg Atoms
Among the thriving quantum computation and quantum simulation platforms based on arrays of Rydberg atoms, those using circular Rydberg atoms are particularly promising. These atoms uniquely combine the strong dipole-dipole interactions typical of Rydberg

A cold strontium Rydberg gas [PDF]
Cold gases of Rydberg atoms are an ideal system in which to study the novel effects of strong interatomic interactions. This thesis describes the design and construction of the world's first experiment to study Rydberg states in a cold gas of an alkaline

Quantum Nonequilibrium Physics with Rydberg Atoms [PDF]
A Rydberg atom is an atom excited to a high energy level, and there is a strong dipole-dipole interaction between nearby Rydberg atoms. While there has been much interest in closed systems of Rydberg atoms, less is known about open systems of Rydberg ...

Engineering thermal reservoirs for ultracold dipole–dipole-interacting Rydberg atoms
We consider an open quantum system of ultracold Rydberg atoms. The system part consists of resonant dipole–dipole-interacting Rydberg states. The environment part is formed by ‘three-level atoms’: each atom has a ground state, a short-lived excited state,
