Reappraisal of the Arc-Arc Collision in Taiwan

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2009
Al though it is evident that Taiwan has been formed by the collision of the west-facing Luzon arc with the Eurasian continental mar gin, there're main a lot of enigmas in this collision. The major ones are: (1) a trans form fault presently connecting the

Characteristic Earthquake Sequences near Miyakojima Island, Ryukyu Arc, Japan

open access: yesZisin (Journal of the Seismological Society of Japan. 2nd ser.), 2010
We found eight M 5.1 characteristic earthquakes regularly occurring since 1966 on the plate boundary between the Eurasian plate and the Philippine Sea plate near Miyakojima Island, the Ryukyu Arc, Japan. The quake recurrence interval was 5.89 years in average, and the standard deviation was only 0.73 years.

Activated seismicity by strain rate change in the Yaeyama region, south Ryukyu

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2018
We evaluated the long-term strain rate by using continuous global navigation satellite system data of GEONET and compared it with seismicity activation between 1996 and 2017 near Iriomote Island, south Ryukyu arc.

Millennial slip rate of the Longitudinal Valley fault from river terraces: Implications for convergence across the active suture of eastern Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Longitudinal Valley fault is a key element in the active tectonics of Taiwan. It is the principal structure accommodating convergence across one of the two active sutures of the Taiwan orogeny.

Written records of historical tsunamis in the northeastern South China Sea - Challenges associated with developing a new integrated database [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Comprehensive analysis of 15 previously published regional databases incorporating more than 100 sources leads to a newly revised historical tsunami database for the northeastern (NE) region of the South China Sea (SCS) including Taiwan.

Modern carbonate sedimentary facies on the outer shelf and slope around New Caledonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We investigated surface carbonate sediments at 33 sites on the outer shelf and slope around New Caledonia (163°-167°E, 20°-23°S), at water depths of 75-720m.

New findings on submerged patch reefs and reefal carbonate rocks at water depths of 70–100 m on the insular shelf off Miyako-jima, southern Ryukyus, Japan

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science, 2020
Sub-bottom profiling (SBP) surveys and bathymetric mapping conducted off the shore of Miyako-jima, which belongs to the southern Ryukyus in the Ryukyu Island Arc, have revealed the presence of mound-shaped structures 3–8 m high and 50–120 m wide at ...

Origin of Alkaline Basaltic Intrusive Rocks in an Exhumed Accretionary Complex: Implications for Past Petit‐Spot Volcanism in the Ocean

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2023
Accreted basaltic rocks are expected to provide information on intraplate volcanism in the oceans. Basaltic rocks, originating from mid‐ocean ridges, plateaus, and seamounts, have been reported from exhumed accretionary complexes. However, basaltic rocks
