Spatiotemporal Evolution of Hydroclimatic Variables in the Brazilian Semi‐Arid Region Through the Aridity Index and Susceptibility to Desertification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 8, 30 June 2026.
Over the past 60 years, noticeable changes have been observed in the main hydroclimatological variables, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors. In the context of climate change, such behaviour may adversely affect the state's economic activities, as well as increase the recurrence of extreme events in the region.

Distribution of populations of broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris, Daudin 1802, Alligatoridae) in the São Francisco River basin, Brazil Distribuição das populações de jacaré-do-papo-amarelo (Caiman latirostris, Daudin 1802, Alligatoridae) na bacia do Rio São Francisco, Brasil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2010
We surveyed populations of the broad-snouted caiman, Caiman latirostris, throughout the São Francisco River basin, from Três Marias reservoir, State of Minas Gerais, to the river delta, at the boarder of Sergipe and Alagoas states.

Up scaling table grape water requirements in the Low-Middle São Francisco river basin, Brazil

open access: yes, 2014
Landsat satellite images and a net of 15 agro-meteorological stations were used together for determining actual evapotranspiration (ET) and crop coefficient (Kc) of table grapes on a large scale in the Low-Middle São Francisco river basin.

Occurrence of a Cavity‐Nesting Tropical Swallow Is Associated to Riverbed Lithology

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the factors shaping species distribution is a key challenge in ecology and biogeography. While dispersal limitations, environmental features, and biotic interactions are commonly recognized as key determinants of species abundance and distribution, some species exhibit patchy distributions that remain hard to explain.

Life‐History and Landscape Context Shaping the Spatial Genetic Structure of the Migratory Amazonian Fish Prochilodus nigricans

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The Neotropical migratory fish Prochilodus nigricans plays a critical ecological and socioeconomic role in the Amazon basin. Nevertheless, little is known about its populations and the genetic diversity pattern of the species. In light of this, the current study investigates the spatial genetic structure and diversity of P.

MISS diversity from saline lakes of Brazilian Pantanal: Origin, potential of preservation and comparison with examples of the Ediacaran‐Cambrian shallow depositional settings

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 4, Page 945-964, June 2026.
ABSTRACT One of the largest wetlands on Earth, the Brazilian Pantanal contains roughly 10 000 natural lakes, about 1000 of which are hypersaline. In these environmentally stressful settings, animal life struggles to survive, while cyanobacteria form extensive mats.
