Symbolic value and the limits of good‐for theory
Abstract Good‐for theorists claim that to be valuable is to be good for someone, in the sense of being beneficial for them. Their opponents deny this, arguing that some things are good‐simpliciter: good independently of being good for anyone. In this article I argue in favor of good‐simpliciter.

Abstract A new argument is offered which proceeds through epistemic possibility (for all S knows, p), cutting a trail from modality to Millianism, the controversial thesis that the semantic content of a proper name is simply its bearer. Naturalized epistemology is committed to denying a priori insight into the kinds of kinds that are and are not knowledge or justification makers.
