S parameters: a practical education
IEEE Transactions on Education, 1989The course on radiofrequency amplifier design by the technique of S-parameters offered at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is described with some emphasis on the associated laboratory portion of the course. The course begins with microstrip amplifier construction and the modeling of both lumped and distributed circuit elements ...

S-parameters are another means for describing multi-port networks. The scattering matrix ties port reflected/transmitted waves to incident ones. The waves have units of square root of power and have direct relations to terminal voltages and current.

S-parameters utilization in electrical quadrupoles analysis
2017 9th International Conference on Electronics, Computers and Artificial Intelligence (ECAI), 2017This study, using the theory of electric circuits, shows the right definition of scattering parameters (S-parameters) for any two-port electric circuit and the practical way to use these parameters in streamline the processes of information transmission and propagation, and the transfer of the active power from the electric quadrupole input (output) to

This paper presents generalization of scattering parameters to nonlinear circuits, overviews their applications and discusses their limitations. Those limitations were not a problem as long as the devices under test were matched at all ports. However the software tools that allow arbitrary settings can be easily misused.

S-parameters and transmission lines are the main tools utilized in microwave amplifier design. Before we can design our own circuits, however, we need to study some methods of analysis. In this chapter, we will use mathematical and graphical tools to analyze circuits. These circuits will be networks composed of one or more elements.

S-Parameters and Circuit Responses
2013Design of circuits and systems invariably requires a thorough understanding of circuit theory. This chapter sets out to do this, but the focus is on circuit analysis at microwave frequencies.

The Smith Chart and S-Parameters
1999In 1939 P.H. Smith developed a chart that is still a key tool in microwave work and is heavily used in this book. This chart is fundamentally admittance and/or impedance scales overlaid on a polar plot of voltage reflection coefficient Γ versus frequency.
