Sampling method in probabilistic S-version finite element analysis for initial flaw size
Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, 2016The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the accuracy of the sampling method in probabilistic fatigue surface crack growth analysis. A finite thickness plate with surface crack subjected to a fatigue load is considered for fracture analysis using the newly developed Probabilistic S-version Finite Element Model (ProbS-FEM).

The s-version of the finite element method
Computers & Structures, 1992Abstract A methodology to improve the quality of the finite element calculations in the regions of unacceptable errors has been developed. Unlike the existing adaptive techniques, where either the mesh is refined ( h -version), or the polynomial order is increased ( p -version), or a combination of both ( h − p version), the s -version increases ...

The application of the s-version finite-element method (SFEM) in the failure analysis of open-hole composite plates is illustrated by using the results of tension tests on a T700/epoxy laminate with a central hole. A modeling methodology for open-hole composite plates based on the SFEM is presented.
