A Novel Definition and Grading Diagnostic Criteria for Tumour‐Type‐Specific Comprehensive Cachexia Risk

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background The existing diagnostic criteria for cancer cachexia do not meet clinical needs. We aimed to establish novel comprehensive evaluation scales for cachexia specific to patients with solid tumours. Methods This study included 12 651 patients (males: 6793 [53.7%]; females: 5858 [46.3%]; medium age: 58 [interquartile range:50/66] years ...

Systemic Hormonal Contraceptive Use and Rhinitis Among Adult Women: An All of Us Database Analysis

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 10, Issue 2, April 2025.
Our study investigated the association between rhinitis, both allergic and nonallergic, and systemic hormonal contraceptive use among adult women aged 20–40 using a large national United States data set. We found that systemic hormonal contraceptive use was associated with allergic rhinitis but was not associated with nonallergic rhinitis.

High‐throughput amino acid‐level characterization of the interactions of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 with variably divergent proteases

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract While members of large paralogous protein families share structural features, their functional niches often diverge significantly. Serine protease inhibitors (SERPINs), whose members typically function as covalent inhibitors of serine proteases, are one such family.

Societal Costs Associated With Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Subgroups: A Study Utilizing Linked National Registries

open access: yesPulmonary Circulation, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a heterogenic diagnosis including idiopathic and hereditary PAH (IPAH/HPAH) and groups associated to connective tissue disease (APAH‐CTD) and congenital heart disease (APAH‐CHD). Pre‐ and post‐diagnosis societal costs in PAH subgroups are not well known.

The Quorum Sensing Regulated sRNA Lrs1 Is Involved in the Adaptation to Low Iron in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 2, April 2025.
The quorum sensing regulated sRNA Lrs1 participates in the adaptation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in low iron by downregulating the siderophore pyochelin, the Quorum Sensing system PQS, and its associated virulence factor phenazines. ABSTRACT Iron is an essential nutrient for microbial growth. The opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa can survive

YOLO‐Behaviour: A simple, flexible framework to automatically quantify animal behaviours from videos

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, Page 760-774, April 2025.
Abstract Manually coding behaviours from videos is essential to study animal behaviour but it is labour‐intensive and susceptible to inter‐rater bias and reliability issues. Recent developments of computer vision tools enable the automatic quantification of behaviours, supplementing or even replacing manual annotation.
