Treatment of COVID-19 patients with the anti-CD6 antibody itolizumab. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Transl Immunology, 2020
In this study, 70 patients with confirmed SARS‐CoV‐2 received itolizumab in combination with other therapies included in the Cuban protocol for COVID‐19. The antibody reduced IL‐6 level or prevented its oversecretion. Most patients showed pulmonary improvement and were rapidly discharged from the ICU. We conclude that the timely use of itolizumab might

How does facilitation influence the outcome of species interactions?

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 10, Page 2094-2104, October 2023., 2023
Closely aligning at least some future empirical work on facilitation with existing population dynamic theory will further improve understanding of the effects of facilitation on ecological dynamics. Abstract Research on facilitation has not had the advantage of being explicitly underpinned by mathematical population dynamic theory.

A novel mixed and energy‐momentum consistent framework for coupled nonlinear thermo‐electro‐elastodynamics

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 124, Issue 10, Page 2135-2170, 30 May 2023., 2023
Abstract A novel mixed framework and energy‐momentum consistent integration scheme in the field of coupled nonlinear thermo‐electro‐elastodynamics is proposed. The mixed environment is primarily based on a framework for elastodynamics in the case of polyconvex strain energy functions.

Diverse demographic factors influence apparent juvenile survival in a migratory songbird

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 12, Issue 10, October 2021., 2021
Abstract To better understand the dynamics of avian populations and their role in population trends, we require an in‐depth understanding of the factors influencing the survival of adults and juveniles. However, assessing survival in juveniles is often challenging, especially in small, migratory species where individuals typically disperse from the ...

Pyrene‐Based Small‐Molecular Hole Transport Layers for Efficient and Stable Narrow‐Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 5, Issue 10, October 2021., 2021
The control of molecular packing through hydrogen‐bond‐directed self‐assembly bestows robustness to the structure of hole transporting layers (HTL). A comparative study between two analogous pyrene‐based small molecules proves that self‐assembled HTLs benefit the solution processing of Pb–Sn perovskite solar cells and improve their efficiency and ...

Building a socio‐ecological monitoring platform for the comprehensive management of tropical dry forests

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 3, Issue 3, Page 238-248, May 2021., 2021
Tropical dry forests (TDF) underpin the wellbeing of millions, mostly rural populations; yet have suffered from severe clearing in Colombia, triggering cascading effects such as desertification. By engaging scientists, society, and institutions in the establishment of platforms for monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, crucial knowledge ...

Use of Sodium Diethyldithiocarbamate to Enhance the Open‐Circuit Voltage of CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 5, Issue 4, April 2021., 2021
Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (NaDEDTC) as processing agent enhances the open‐circuit voltage of methylammonium lead triiodide perovskite solar cells. DEDTC modulates film formation, improves the charge transfer between the hole transporting layer and the perovskite, and reduces nonradiative recombination.

Circadian gating of dark‐induced increases in chloroplast‐ and cytosolic‐free calcium in Arabidopsis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 225, Issue 5, Page 1993-2005, March 2020., 2020
Summary Changes in the spatiotemporal concentration of free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]) in different organelles of the cell contribute to responses of plants to physiological and environmental stimuli. One example are [Ca2+] increases in the stroma of chloroplasts during light‐to‐dark transitions; however, the function and mechanisms responsible are unknown, in part
