Variability among Mediterranean populations ofSabella pavonina(Annelida: Sabellidae)
Italian Journal of Zoology, 2014Sabella pavonina Savigny, 1920 is a species common to sheltered areas of northwest Europe and reported also in several Mediterranean sites. However, most Mediterranean records refer to faunistic lists with only few papers reporting morphological descriptions supported by drawings or photographs, most of which are short and out-dated.

Contributions to the taxonomy of Sabellidae (Polychaeta)
Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 1983The genus Potamilla Malmgren is particularly characterized by dorsal lips which lack any radiolar midrib; Pseudopotamilla Bush by compound radiolar eyes, dorsal collar lappets and flanges alongside the bases of the most dorsal radioles; Demonax Kinberg by a wide dorsal collar gap and companion setae with big heads and narrow blades; and Potamethus ...

A revision ofSabellastarte(Polychaeta: Sabellidae)
Journal of Natural History, 2003Sabella indica Savigny, 1822 (‘Indian Ocean’) is the type of Sabellastarte, but that name is preoccupied in the Pectinariidae. Sabellastarte sanctijosephi (Gravier, 1906, as Eurato, from Djibouti) has sometimes been used in its place, ignoring more suitable forms and older names. Sabellastarte spectabilis (Grube, 1878, Philippines) with an Indo-Pacific

Spermathecae of Fabricia and Manayunkia (Sabellidae, Polychaeta)
Invertebrate Biology, 1995The structure of te sperm storage organs found in females of the fabriciin sabellid species Manayunkia aestuarina and Fabricia stellaris is described. In both species, adult females have a pair of prostomial spermathecae, lying anterior and dorsal to the buccal opening, in the base of the radiolar crown.

Behaviour, irrigation and respiration inEudistylia vancouveri(Polychaeta: Sabellidae)
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1991To evaluate the relative importance of tentacular crown and body surface in sabellid respiration, experiments were carried out onEudistylia vancouveri(Kinberg, 1867), a long narrow worm living in a permanent tube in the intertidal zone. This species irrigates its tube by peristaltic waves, as do most species of Sabellinae and this allows water ...

Sabellidae (Polychaeta) Principally from the Northeast Pacific Ocean
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1979Morphological and distributional observations are reported for 14 northeast Pacific sabellids, largely using collections from British Columbia and Washington waters, and for one species from New Zealand. For nine of these, additions to the descriptions are provided based on type material.

Behaviour, Setal Inversion and Phylogeny of Sabellida (Polychaeta)
Zoologica Scripta, 1981The path taken by the faecal groove, following two right angle bends, appears inefficient in Sabellidae. It fits well with the thoracic folds of serpulids and follows a gentle spiral in caobangiids, but only in spirorbids is it of obvious adaptive value, being suited to life in a coiled tube.

Sperm Ultrastructure and Spermathecal Structure in Amphiglena spp. (Polychaeta: Sabellidae)
Invertebrate Biology, 1998The ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and sperm in four species of Amphiglena is described: A. lindae, A. mediterranea, A. nathae, and A. pacifica. All are simultaneous hermaphrodites with oocytes and developing sperm present in abdominal chaetigers. Spermiogenesis occurs in large, synchronously developing masses connected to a cytophore in all four ...
