Natural products from Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus show promise as biolarvicides against Aedes albopictus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 9, Page 4231-4242, September 2024.
Entomopathogenic organisms are novel biopesticide sources. Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus spp. are quite effective against Aedes albopictus larvae. Fabclavine can be developed into biolarvicides or used as a model to synthesize new compounds. Abstract BACKGROUND In the perpetual struggle to manage mosquito populations, there has been increasing demand ...

The effect of natural products used as pesticides on the soil microbiota: OECD 216 nitrogen transformation test fails to identify effects that were detected via q‐PCR microbial abundance measurement

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 6, Page 2563-2576, June 2024.
Soil microbiota constitutes a main protection goal in the current pesticide regulatory framework. We show that the OECD 216 N transformation test, used in the regulatory process, fails to spot pesticide adverse effects that were identified via standardized and advanced molecular tools, advocating for a revision of the specific regulatory framework ...

Effect of sublethal concentrations of the bioinsecticide spinosyn treatment of Trichoplusia ni eggs on the caterpillar and its parasitoid, Trichogramma brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 6, Page 2965-2975, June 2024.
Eggs of the pest caterpillar Trichoplusia ni were exposed to sublethal concentrations of the bioinsecticide spinosyn. In the hatched caterpillars, genes encoding proteins involved in detoxification strategies were upregulated. Trichogramma brassicae wasps that emerged from these eggs had larger tibia length and wing area, suggesting higher performance.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 6, February 5, 2024.
