Screening sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) genotypes for salt tolerance using multivariate cluster analysis
Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture (PCTOC), 2012Disease-free sugarcane plantlets of 11 cultivars derived from meristem cuttings were photoautotrophically grown on the MS medium and subsequently exposed to 0 (control) or 200 mM NaCl (salt stress) for 14 days. Sodium ion (Na+) in all sugarcane varieties was enriched when plantlets were subjected to 200 mM NaCl, except K88-1.

Itchgrass (Rottboellia cochinchinensis) Interference in Sugarcane (Saccharumsp.)
Weed Technology, 1991Field studies were conducted in the northern and southern cane belt areas of Louisiana to determine the effect of itchgrass on sugarcane growth and yield. Itchgrass was allowed to interfere with sugarcane season-long, early-season from emergence in the spring until layby (last cultivation) in mid-June, and late-season from layby until harvest ...

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1980
Five Hawaiian commercial sugarcane (Saccharum sp. hybrids) clones were crossed in a full diallel. Four morphological characters were studied in the progeny: number of millable stalks per plant, stalk diameter, stalk length, and sucrose content. A fifth character, plant volume, was calculated from stalk number, stalk diameter and stalk length.

Sugarcane is a multipurpose crop mostly used in Uruguay for bioethanol production. It requires high amounts of N fertilization for optimal growth, which causes environmental degradation and high production costs. Previously, a bacterial collection associated with surface-sterilized stems of sugarcane was characterized for in vitro plant growth ...

Response of Sugarcane (Saccharumsp.) Cultivars to Preemergence Herbicides
Weed Technology, 1989The potential diversity in tolerance of eight commercial sugarcane cultivars to metribuzin, terbacil, and hexazinone was investigated. Herbicides were applied preemergence in the fall after planting and postemergence to the crop in the spring each year over the 3-yr crop cycle.

Nitrogen gains and losses in sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) agro-ecosystems on the coast of Peru
Plant and Soil, 1982Irrigated sugarcane crops on the Peruvian coastal desert require 300 kg N-fertilizer ha−1 for economically-optimum yields. About 24 kg N ha−1 is added to the systemvia irrigation water from rivers and deep wells. 1.2% of the total N in the soil is in available form during the growing season.
