Utricle, Saccule, and Cochlear Duct in Relation to Stapedotomy

open access: closedAnnals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1991
This study was performed to determine the area in which and the circumstances under which stapedotomy can be relatively safely performed. Measurements were made from central areas of the medial surface of the stapedial footplate to the utricle, the saccule, and the cochlear duct in 10 normal and 11 otosclerotic temporal bones.

Function of semicircular canals, utricles and saccules in deaf children

open access: closedActa Oto-Laryngologica, 2004
To study vestibular function in deaf children. In 36 deaf children the function of the semicircular canals, saccules and utricles was measured by means of caloric testing, recordings of vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) and measurements of the subjective visual horizontal (SVH) at different body tilts, respectively. In total, 30% of subjects ...

New Diagnostic Tests for the Function of Utricles, Saccules and Somatic Graviceptors

open access: closedActa Oto-Laryngologica, 1995
Clinical tests that allow us to discriminate between utricular, saccular and somatic effects on gravity perception and control are desirable but wanting. A new test battery is presented which combines four experimental paradigms based on the subjective horizontal body position (SHP), namely, a test on a tiltable board and on a sled centrifuge under ...

Clinical and radiological characteristics of patients with collapse or fistula of the saccule as evaluated by inner ear MRI

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2020
Background: Delayed 3D-FLAIR sequences enable the distinction between the utricle and the saccule. Aims/objectives: We sought to evaluate the clinical and radiological findings in patients with no visible saccule (NVS) on 4-hour post-contrast MRI ...

A morphometric comparison of the ductus reuniens in humans and guinea pigs, with a note on its evolutionary importance.

The Anatomical Record
The mammalian inner ear contains the sensory organs responsible for balance (semicircular canals, utricle, and saccule) and hearing (cochlea). While these organs are functionally distinct, there exists a critical structural connection between the two ...

PROPAGATION OF ELECTRICAL SIGNALS THROUGH THE TISSUE OF THE VESTIBULAR ORGAN BY STIMULATING OTOLITH MEMBRANES

Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii. Fizika
An electrophysical model of the otolith organs of the vestibular apparatus of a laboratory animal (rat) has been developed using an equivalent electrical circuit.

[A study of the otolithic membranes of the saccule and utricle of the guinea pig].

Kosmicheskaia biologiia i aviakosmicheskaia meditsina, 1990
By scanning electron microscopy the otolith membranes of the sacculus and utriculus of adult guinea-pigs were examined. The spatial arrangement of otoconia was found to differ from the standard scheme. New forms of imperfect otoconia were detected. Differences in morphological parameters of otoconia in the labyrinthine structures were revealed. Factors
