Alternative Reconstruction of a First Century AD Roman Cavalry Saddle

open access: yesEXARC Journal, 2021
The reconstruction of a First Century AD Roman cavalry saddle has not been investigated since Peter Connolly introduced his ideas of a wooden tree saddle in 1984, based on the evidence and dimensions provided by archaeological finds of leather saddle ...

Stimuli‐Responsive Electrofluidic Nervous System for Autonomous Soft Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A stimuli‐responsive electrofluidic nervous system (SENS) is introduced to achieve sensing, signal processing, and decision‐making using soft materials. Comprising fluidic switches and electroactive actuators, SENS enables multimodal stimuli‐responsiveness and autonomous control in soft robots.

Exploring the World of Double Nanohoops

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
As two conjugated nanohoops covalently linked by a central unit, double nanohoops are a relatively new class of strained nanocarbons with different properties to single nanohoops. This review gives an overview of all reported double nanohoops, categorizing their structures, syntheses, and discussing properties and applications. Creativity and synthetic

The Saddle in the act of penance, on a divine horse with a flag attached on the battlefield in the Middle Ages

open access: yesFasciculi Archaeologiae Historicae, 2016
The saddle together with other forms of horse tack and equestrian equipment have considerably contributed to the subdual of the horse to man. Most probably, this is the reason why it has played a significant role in armiscara=harmiscara, a symbolic act ...

Rapid RASER MRI

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Rapid RASER MRI allows for image acquisition without RF excitation. Instead, a population inversion on the nuclear spins is generated by SABRE hyperpolarization, which allows for self‐excitation through the RASER approach. When the desired transverse magnetization is built‐up, conventional EPI encoding is triggered to record the image.

Ontogeny of the malleus in Mesocricetus auratus (Mammalia, Rodentia): Systematic and functional implications for the muroid middle ear

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The three mammalian auditory ossicles enhance sound transmission from the tympanic membrane to the inner ear. The anterior anchoring of the malleus is one of the key characters for functional classification of the auditory ossicles. Previous studies revealed a medial outgrowth of the mallear anterior process, the processus internus ...
