Saer: the making of a fragmentary work
Argentinian writer Juan Jose Saer’s work (1937-2005) seems to rest on a tension between two aesthetic modalities, often regarded as antagonistic. On the one hand, a quest for homogeneity and unity derived from the paradigm of Balzac’s Comedie humaine and, on the other hand, the fragmentary aesthetics of the Nouveau Roman.
