An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Assessment of Soil Fertility Status under Soil Degradation Rate Using Geomatics in West Nile Delta

open access: yesLand, 2022
The presence of a noticeable rate of degradation in the land of the Nile Delta reduces the efficiency of crop production and hinders supply of the increasing demand of its growing population.

Creating a Safe Space: A Qualitative Study of Gay and Lesbian Experiences in Czech Schools [PDF]

open access: yes
Gays and lesbians often feel unsafe in schools due to a homophobic environment. Many studies report that these students frequently experience bullying, discrimination, and homophobia in educational settings.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Detecting and Mapping Salt-Affected Soil with Arid Integrated Indices in Feature Space Using Multi-Temporal Landsat Imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Salinity systems are well known as extreme environmental systems that occur either naturally or by certain human activities, in arid and semiarid regions, which may harm crop production.

Closure conversion is safe for space [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the ACM on Programming Languages, 2019
We formally prove that closure conversion with flat environments for CPS lambda calculus is correct (preserves semantics) and safe for time and space, meaning that produced code preserves the time and space required for the execution of the source program.

Trajectory Optimization for the Nonholonomic Space Rover in Cluttered Environments Using Safe Convex Corridors

open access: yes, 2023
Due to the limitation of space rover onboard computing resources and energy, there is an urgent need for high-quality drive trajectories in complex environments, which can be provided by delicately designed motion optimization methods.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...
