Simultaneous Measurement of Thermal Expansion and Thermo‐Optic Effect in Solids Using Terahertz Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal expansion and the thermo‐optic effect in solids are closely coupled, reflecting concurrent changes in mass density and polarizability. Using echo‐resolved THz spectroscopy, we simultaneously determine sub‐micrometer thermal expansion and complex refractive index changes of MgO and Al2O3 from 10–325 K. The analysis yields both the coefficient of

Dynamic Analysis and Vibration of Beam Inside Annulus for Ultra Short-Radius Water Jet Drilling

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering Research, 2012
Conventional water-jet nozzle systems have been developed and partially used in the oil and gas industry to drill horizontal sidetracks. However, this technique still presents a few shortcomings associated with tube buckling and water jet sagging. Due to

Engineered GM1 Intersects Between Mitochondrial and Synaptic Pathways to Ameliorate ALS Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease driven by genetic and molecular disruptions affecting energy balance, protein homeostasis, and stress responses in nerve cells. Studies using human and rodent models identified convergent defects in mitochondria and synaptic function.

Evaporation‐Driven Solutal Marangoni Control of Rayleigh–Taylor Instability in Inverted Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inverted liquid films, like paint on a ceiling, are inherently unstable under gravity. This work shows that selective evaporation in volatile binary mixtures generates solutal Marangoni stresses that either suppress or amplify the Rayleigh Taylor instability.

Total Facelift: Forehead Lift, Midface Lift, and Neck Lift

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2015
Patients with thick skin mainly exhibit the aging processes of sagging, whereas patients with thin skin develop wrinkles or volume loss. Asian skin is usually thicker than that of Westerners; and thus, the sagging of skin due to aging, rather than ...

Competition Policy and Agribusiness in the Biden Administration

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Biden Administration pursued a set of ambitious competition policy initiatives in agriculture and agribusiness, primarily aimed at livestock and poultry supply chains, farm inputs, and food retailing. The initiatives included expanded antitrust enforcement; new US Department of Agriculture (USDA) contract regulations requiring poultry ...

Closed-Form Formula of the Transverse Dynamic Stiffness of a Shallowly Inclined Taut Cable

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2014
The segmented vibration-governed equations and their general solutions for cables acted upon by intermediate transverse forces are derived by applying Hamilton’s principle. Including the effects of sagging, flexible stiffness, clamped boundary conditions,

Revealing Protein–Protein Interactions Using a Graph Theory‐Augmented Deep Learning Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study presents a fast, cost‐efficient approach for classifying protein–protein interactions by integrating graph‐theory parametrization with deep learning (DL). Multiscale features extracted from graph‐encoded polarized‐light microscopy (PLM) images enable accurate prediction of binding strengths.
