Morphometric Study of Mandibular Ramus Related to Sagittal Ramus Split Osteotomy and Osteosynthesis

open access: yesJournal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2012
The objective of this study was to quantify the cortical bone thickness of the mandibular ramus to determine conditions related to sagittal split ramus osteotomy and placement of screws. The patient sample comprised 44 subjects of ages ranging from 46 to 52 years (mean age, 49 years).

The Biomechanical Effects of Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy on Temporomandibular Joint

Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, 2018
The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions and deformations of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) during different periods before and after sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO). A three-dimensional finite element model of the mandible and TMJ was established, based on the preoperative CT of a patient with mandibular prognathism ...

Adjustable retainer in sagittal ramus-split osteotomy

International Journal of Oral Surgery, 1978
Abstract The use of an adjustable retainer, by which the normal position of the condylar segment in the sagittal ramus-split osteotomy can be recorded and maintained, is described.

Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy with Mandible Reduction

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2007
The sagittal split ramus osteotomy is a well-established procedure, and many authors have attempted various modifications of the surgical technique. Nowadays, it is widely acknowledged that people in Korea, Japan, and China prefer an oval face, the lower part of which is slender.

Technical improvements in the sagittal split ramus osteotomy

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1989
This article addresses the potential sources of morbidity associated with the sagittal split ramus osteotomy. Refinements in the instrumentation and technique are described; these enhance the exactness of the procedure, thereby minimizing the complications and improving the stability of the surgical result.

Modification of the mandibular ramus sagittal split osteotomy

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1987
The sagittal split osteotomy of the mandibular ramus is a common procedure used in the correction of mandibular deformities. Modifications of the procedure will be presented for advancement and setback of the mandible. Major advantages of this technique include controlled splitting of the segments and predictable positional control of the proximal ...

Mandibular ramus anatomy as it relates to the medial osteotomy of the sagittal split ramus osteotomy

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1991
The sagittal split ramus osteotomy is probably the most frequently used procedure for correction of mandibular skeletal dentofacial deformities. Despite numerous improvements in the technique in the 30 years since the procedure was introduced, a number of troublesome complications still occur.
