The Proper Motion of Sagittarius A*. II. The Mass of Sagittarius A* [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2004
We report measurements with the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) of the position of Sgr A* with respect to two extragalactic radio sources over a period of 8 yr. The apparent proper motion of Sgr A* relative to J1745 283 is 6:379 0:024 mas yr 1 along a position angle of 209N60 0N18, almost entirely in the plane of the Galaxy.

What Does the Milky Way Look Like?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
In spite of much work, the overall spiral structure morphology of the Milky Way remains somewhat uncertain. In the last two decades, accurate distance measurements have provided us with an opportunity to solve this issue.

A Virtualization Approach to Correct Systematic Errors in Measured TDOA and FDOA for Low Orbit Dual-Satellite Positioning Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2021
The low-orbit dual-satellite passive location system provides a cost-efficient and easy implementation platform, by which positions of unknown emitters on the Earth can be determined through measuring both the time and the frequency differences by two ...

Neutrino lighthouse at Sagittarius A*

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2014
We investigate whether a subset of high-energy events observed by IceCube may be due to neutrinos from Sagittarius A*. We check both spatial and temporal coincidences of IceCube events with other transient activities of Sagittarius A*. Among the seven IceCube shower events nearest to the galactic center, we have found that event 25 has a time very ...

Testing the ALP-photon coupling with polarization measurements of Sagittarius A⋆ [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2020
Ultra-light bosons such as axions or axion-like particles (ALPs), are promising candidates to solve the dark matter problem. A unique way to detect such ALPs is to search for the periodic oscillation feature of the position angles of linearly polarized ...

Whiting 1: Confirmation of its accretion by the Milky Way

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We investigate the association of Whiting 1 with the Sagittarius tidal stream by obtaining radial velocities for a sample of 101 stars observed with VIMOS.
