Presença de Campylobacter spp. em macacos-de-cheiro (Saimiri spp.) assintomáticos cativos e sua correlação com as condições de manejo Campylobacter spp. in asymptomatic captive squirrel monkeys (Saimiri spp.) and its correlation with the handling conditions

Gestural Sequences in Wild Spider Monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 88, Issue 4, April 2026.
Geoffroy's spider monkeys produce gestural sequences in the wild, mostly during aggressive, playful and sexual interactions. ABSTRACT To date, research on gestural communication in species other than great apes has been quite limited, especially in their natural habitat, although including a broader range of species in different settings is essential ...

Identification of transforming genes of subgroup A and C strains of Herpesvirus saimiri

open access: yes, 1991
Herpesvirus saimiri is an oncogenic herpesvirus that induces rapidly progressing lymphomas in New World primates. Using retrovirus vectors for gene transfer, specific open reading frames of H.

Radiographic Assessment of Spinal Degeneration in Vervet Monkeys (Chlorocebus aethiops): Prevalence, Patterns, and Relevance to Primate Aging Models

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 88, Issue 3, March 2026.
Radiographic evaluation of 70 vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus aethiops) maintained under human care revealed a high prevalence of age‐related spinal degeneration. Osteophytes emerged earliest and most prominently in the lumbar region. These region‐specific patterns parallel those reported in other catarrhine primates, supporting C.

Effects of Increased Distal Limb Mass on Stability During Arboreal Locomotion in the Laboratory Rat (Rattus norvegicus)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 3, March 2026.
We placed small weighted bracelets on the wrist and ankle joints of laboratory rats to test the effects of limb mass on stability during locomotion. We found that adding mass to the distal parts of limbs does not, on its own, augment stability during quadrupedal locomotion.

Renal Disease in Squirrel Monkeys (Saimiri sciureus)

open access: yes, 1981
Renal lithiasis, pyelonephritis, and glomerulonephritis were common in our colony of Brazilian phenotype squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus), with glomerulonephritis being a major cause of mortality in adult animals.

Global distribution and contexts of interactions between humans and non‐human primates: A systematic review

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 3, Page 551-568, March 2026.
Abstract Understanding the frequency and socio‐ecological drivers of contacts between humans and non‐human primates (NHPs) is crucial for enhancing coexistence that favours NHP conservation, while limiting negative consequences such as aggressions and cross‐species disease transmission.
