From steps to home ranges: How habitat disturbance influences the movement drivers of an arboreal primate

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Challenging the narrative about howler monkeys' high resilience to anthropogenic changes, our multiscale analysis reveals the costs of habitat disturbance to their movement ecology. We identify thermal limitations, reduced travel efficiency, and significant spatial saturation.

Native habitat affinities predict fish invasions with post‐invasion habitat shifts

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Initial invasion success is gated by native pre‐adaptations, but post‐invasion establishment is characterized by habitat shifts. We demonstrate that forecasting risk based solely on native niches severely underestimates future ecological impacts, and we provide an empirically validated watchlist of future invaders.

Human hunters are no substitute for vanishing apex predators

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that human hunters fail to replicate the collective and individual ecological functions of natural apex predators in sustaining biodiversity and promoting stable spatial patterns. These insights are vital for rethinking predator conservation and wildlife management in human‐dominated landscapes.

Why Does Excess Cash Crowd Out Donations? The Role of Overhead Ratio and Fundraising Efforts

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explores how excess cash holdings are associated with the level of donations nonprofit organizations (NPOs) receive, emphasizing the mediating roles of overhead ratio and fundraising efforts. Drawing on interdependent utility theory, agency theory, the precautionary motive of cash and resource dependence theory, we develop a ...
