HySim: An efficient hybrid similarity measure for patch matching in image inpainting

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Inpainting, for filling missing image regions, is a crucial task in various applications, such as medical imaging and remote sensing. Trending data-driven approaches efficiency, for image inpainting, often requires extensive data preprocessing.

Reduced fitness cost accounts for the stability of a malathion‐resistant heterogeneous duplication haplotype in Ceratitis capitata field populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Malathion resistance in Spanish field populations of Ceratitis capitata is associated with a point mutation (R allele) and a heterogeneous duplication (RS haplotype) of the Ccace2 gene. The R allele imposes a higher fitness cost than the RS haplotype under laboratory and field conditions. An evolutionary model supports the stability of the RS haplotype

Ground‐based robotic remote sensing for standardized biodiversity monitoring in coastal habitats

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Illustrated workflow of the proposed citizen‐to‐robot monitoring pipeline: (i) expert‐validated citizen observations are translated into AI models, (ii) deployed on a ground‐based robotic platform for proximal sensing of coastal dune habitats, (iii) enabling standardized detection of ecological targets (e.g., Pancratium maritimum & Brithys crini), and (

Integrating Sustainability Through Socio‐Scientific Issues in Chile: Towards a Decolonial Chemistry Education

open access: yesScience Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how integrating sustainability through socio‐scientific issue (SSI) in secondary chemistry teaching shapes epistemic openness and closure from a decolonial perspective, as mediated through classroom discourse. Drawing on a co‐planned lesson on copper mining in Chile – a scientifically rich yet ethically and politically ...

Assessing Eco‐Efficiency in Municipal Solid Waste Management Integrating Heterogeneity: A Latent Class Stochastic Frontier Analysis

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The measurement of eco‐efficiency in the municipal solid waste (MSW) sector has garnered significant attention due to the substantial environmental impacts of unsustainable MSW management and the high operational costs associated with public service provision.

Water‐Energy Nexus: Benchmarking the Energy Efficiency of Drinking Water Treatment Plants Accounting for Heterogeneity

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The assessment of energy efficiency in water facilities is receiving increasing attention as a key strategy in the transition toward an energy‐neutral urban water cycle. This study evaluates the energy efficiency of 146 drinking water treatment plants (DWTPs) in Chile by applying a latent class stochastic frontier analysis (LCSFA) to account ...
