Abstract Aims The VICTORIA trial demonstrated a significant reduction in the primary composite outcome of heart failure (HF) hospitalization or cardiovascular death with vericiguat relative to placebo in high‐risk HF. This study aimed to contextualize treatment effects of vericiguat in populations with varying risk profiles simulated from the PARADIGM ...

The complete mitochondrial genome of Salamandra salamandra (Amphibia: Urodela: Salamandridae) [PDF]
The complete mitochondrial genome of Salamandra salamandra was reconstructed using bycatch sequences from an RNAseq library generated from muscle tissue. This study shows the potential of using data originally produced for transcriptome assembly to additionally generate complete mitochondrial genomes. The resulting mitogenome was circular, consisted of

Replace, reduce, refine: A review of animal use in Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans research
Abstract Animal experimentation is common in wildlife disease research. Understanding the impact of this often‐lethal approach is therefore a critical line of inquiry at the intersection of animal welfare and conservation biology. The discovery of the pathogenic salamander chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal) in 2013 ignited a large ...

In this study we tested the effects of insularity on amphibian colouration using the fire salamander as a model system. Although increased melanism was not a consistent pattern across all islands, salamanders from one island exhibited higher proportions of black pigmentation than mainland populations, while insular populations overall showed reduced ...
