The interaction between social saliency and perceptual saliency

Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 2016
The ability to select visual targets in hierarchical stimuli can be affected by both perceptual saliency and social saliency. However, the functional relations between the effects are not understood. Here we examined whether these two factors interact or combine in an additive way.

Ranking Saliency

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2017
Most existing bottom-up algorithms measure the foreground saliency of a pixel or region based on its contrast within a local context or the entire image, whereas a few methods focus on segmenting out background regions and thereby salient objects.

The Salience of Otherness

2020
This chapter outlines a qualitative meta-analysis of the analyses of the social representations of three variants of otherness (i.e., immigration, Islam, and LGBT people). The meta-analysis aimed at assessing the level of generalization of the latent semantic structures detected by first-level analyses with the purpose of testing two general hypotheses

Tax Expenditure Salience

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2012
We investigate taxpayer perceptions of two tax expenditures: the charitable deduction (CD) and the home mortgage interest deduction (HMID). Our survey evidence suggests widespread misperceptions regarding both programs' incentives. Almost half of eligible taxpayers are unaware of the CD's availability.

Applications of Saliency Models

2016
This chapter proposes a taxonomy to classify the real-life applications which can benefit from the use of attention models. There are numerous applications and we try here to remain as exhaustive as possible to provide a picture of all the applications of saliency models, but also to detect where future developments might be of interest.

Free-Floating Salience: Governments as Salience Investors

Academy of Management Proceedings, 2012
The growing popularization of stakeholder theory among management scholars has offered a broad and useful framework for understanding the multiple and interdependent roles of government and busines...

Static saliency vs. dynamic saliency

Proceedings of the 21st ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2013
Recently visual saliency has attracted wide attention of researchers in the computer vision and multimedia field. However, most of the visual saliency-related research was conducted on still images for studying static saliency. In this paper, we give a comprehensive comparative study for the first time of dynamic saliency (video shots) and static ...

Saliency Detection Based on Weighted Saliency Probability

2019 IEEE Intl Conf on Parallel & Distributed Processing with Applications, Big Data & Cloud Computing, Sustainable Computing & Communications, Social Computing & Networking (ISPA/BDCloud/SocialCom/SustainCom), 2019
The key to computer-based image recognition is to distinguish salient objects from the image background. However, it is still challenging to detect salient region when an object significantly touches the image boundaries. In this study, we present a novel salient region detection method based on a color space volume and a novel weighted saliency ...

Deep saliency features for video saliency prediction

2018 International Conference on Advanced Systems and Electric Technologies (IC_ASET), 2018
Recently, the research on the field of visual saliency estimation increases in both neuro-science and computer vision aspects. In this context, we present a new video saliency approach based on deep saliency features to highlight the most important objects in videos.

Physical salience and cognitive salience

2013
Salience phenomena put an element from a linguistic or visual message forward ("pop-up" effect). By confronting works resulting from various research fields, and with the aim to apprehend salience as a general cognitive mechanism, we propose a classification of the factors that make an entity salient in a linguistic utterance or in a visual scene.
