Gabor Saliency Map for Face Recognition

14th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (ICIAP 2007), 2007
In this work a novel feature extraction approach for face recognition is proposed. The method is based on the application of Gabor filters to the most significant image locations, determined during the training stage on the basis of a saliency map. The experiments, carried out on well-known datasets, confirm the efficacy of the approach.

Saliency map based image steganography

2013 28th International Conference on Image and Vision Computing New Zealand (IVCNZ 2013), 2013
Steganography is an emerging field for hiding secure data. This is useful in electronics data security domains such as watermarking, copyright, secret number, unauthorized reproduction etc. In this paper we propose a saliency based steganography technique, which uses a statistical block analysis of the saliency map to identify regions for secure data ...

Saliency map based improved segmentation

2015 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2015
In this paper we present a novel approach for refining segmentation using saliency map. To achieve this, we first develop a new saliency detection method based on cues at various levels. Initially preprocessing step is done using non-linear anisotropic diffusion filtering in order to preserve the edge information in the foreground salient objects and ...

In defense of the salience map: Salience rather than visibility determines selection.

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2013
The aim of the present study was to investigate whether time-dependent biases of oculomotor selection as typically observed during visual search are better accounted for by an absolute-processing-speed account (J. P. de Vries, I. T. C. Hooge, M. A. Wiering, & F. A. J.

A saliency map in primary visual cortex

Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2002
I propose that pre-attentive computational mechanisms in primary visual cortex create a saliency map. This map awards higher responses to more salient image locations; these responses are those of conventional V1 cells tuned to input features, such as orientation and color.
