The Attentional Capture Debate: When Can We Avoid Salient Distractors and When Not?
There has been a long-standing debate concerning whether we are able to resist attention capture by salient distractors. The so-called “signal suppression hypothesis” of Gaspelin and Luck (2018) claimed to have resolved this debate.

SegGPT Meets Co-Saliency Scene [PDF]
Co-salient object detection targets at detecting co-existed salient objects among a group of images. Recently, a generalist model for segmenting everything in context, called SegGPT, is gaining public attention. In view of its breakthrough for segmentation, we can hardly wait to probe into its contribution to the task of co-salient object detection. In

Insights into PI3K/AKT signaling in B cell development and chronic lymphocytic leukemia
This Review explores how the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase and protein kinase B pathway shapes B cell development and drives chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a common blood cancer. It examines how signaling levels affect disease progression, addresses treatment challenges, and introduces novel experimental strategies to improve therapies and patient outcomes.

S4Net: Single stage salient-instance segmentation
In this paper, we consider salient instance segmentation. As well as producing bounding boxes, our network also outputs high-quality instance-level segments as initial selections to indicate the regions of interest.

Salient features of Haemophilus vaginalis [PDF]
A total of 78 strains of Haemophilus vaginalis were examined for 104 features. All strains fermented dextrin, maltose, and starch. Additionally, more than 90% of the strains fermented galactose, glucose, and ribose. Arbutin, cellobiose, melibiose, rhamnose, and salicin were not fermented by any of these strains.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

JL-DCF: Joint Learning and Densely-Cooperative Fusion Framework for RGB-D Salient Object Detection [PDF]
This paper proposes a novel joint learning and densely-cooperative fusion (JL-DCF) architecture for RGB-D salient object detection. Existing models usually treat RGB and depth as independent information and design separate networks for feature extraction

Insertion of the FeB cofactor in cNORs lacking metal inserting chaperones
Nitric oxide reductase is an enzyme found in the bacterial denitrification pathway. The NOR active site contains a non‐heme iron, often, but not always inserted with the assistance of chaperones. Here, we study the insertion of FeB in the subfamily of cNORs lacking chaperones and found a putative channel, conserved in the family, perhaps enabling the ...

Visual attention mechanism and support vector machine based automatic image annotation. [PDF]
Automatic image annotation not only has the efficiency of text-based image retrieval but also achieves the accuracy of content-based image retrieval. Users of annotated images can locate images they want to search by providing keywords.
