Salinity and Water Quality

2009
The impact of salinity on greenhouse grown crops, especially when grown in substrate systems, differs from the impact of salinity on crops grown under field conditions. The most striking difference between greenhouse and field conditions is the overall much higher concentrations of nutrients in greenhouse soils and substrates.

Saline Water Irrigation Scheduling Through a Crop-Water-Salinity Production Function and a Soil-Water-Salinity Dynamic Model

Pedosphere, 2007
Using a crop-water-salinity production function and a soil-water-salinity dynamic model, optimal irrigation scheduling was developed to maximize net return per irrigated area. Plot and field experiments were used to obtain the crop water sensitivity index, the salinity sensitivity index, and other parameters.

Water and Salinity Stress

2016
Continually applying salt-laden irrigation water to soils can lead to soil salinization because plants leave most of the salts behind as they uptake water. Osmotic potential energy in saline soils is negative and resists the movement of water toward plant roots.

Saline-Water Intrusion Management

2019
Saline-water intrusion is the induced flow of saline or brackish water into freshwater aquifers. In coastal areas, horizontal saline-water intrusion involves the landward migration of the roughly wedge-shaped interface between saline and fresh groundwater. Vertical saline-water intrusion (referred to as up-coning) is the upward migration of more saline

Irrigation with Saline Water

1973
The principal difference between irrigated and nonirrigated agriculture, when considered in relation to persistence and permanence, arises from salinity. All irrigation water contains soluble salts, and it is only a matter of time until a salinity or alkalinity problem arises unless measures are taken to prevent it.
