A Model for Optimal Irrigation Scheduling with Saline Water

Water Resources Research, 1980
The paper presents a dynamic programing model for optimal scheduling of irrigation with water of varying salinity levels and soil salinity parameters explicitly considered. The system underlying the model is characterized by two discrete state variables, soil moisture and the salinity level of the soil solution, which are updated on a day‐by‐day basis.

Irrigation with Saline Water

1994
Crop production in arid and semi-arid regions of the world is dependent upon an adequate supply of suitable-quality water. A supply of water is considered adequate when sufficient quantities are readily available for irrigation throughout the season to meet crop-water needs.

Irrigation with Saline Water

1973
The principal difference between irrigated and nonirrigated agriculture, when considered in relation to persistence and permanence, arises from salinity. All irrigation water contains soluble salts, and it is only a matter of time until a salinity or alkalinity problem arises unless measures are taken to prevent it.

UNCERTAINTY AND THE MANAGEMENT OF SALINITY WITH IRRIGATION WATER

1984
The impact of uncertain salt balances in irrigate fields is assessed with a hydroeconomic model that incorporates the effects of salinity. Uncertainty in two parameters that jointly determine root zone salinity is investigated and the conclusions prove to depend upon the way in which these parameters enter the mass-balance equation for soil salinity ...

Irrigation with Saline Water in Puglia

1966
World population, which today comprises some three milliard people is expected to double within a few decades. This makes it essential to produce more food by the utilization of vast areas of land which, up to now, have not been cultivated because they are unsuitable for normal agriculture.

Saline water management for irrigation in India

Agricultural Water Management, 1996
Much (32–84%) of the ground water surveyed in different Indian States is rated either saline or alkali. Because of the continental monsoonal climate, the basic principles of saline water management need some adaptation, e.g. providing for a leaching requirement is not appropriate when the growing season for post-monsoon winter crops starts with a ...

Sugarcane response to saline irrigation water

Journal of Plant Nutrition, 2000
Abstract Salinity of irrigation water reduces yield and juice quality in sugarcane (Saccharum spp. hybrids), but cultivars vary in the degree of reduction. Genotypes which accumulate more potassium (K+) may be more resistant to salinity than genotypes that accumulate less K+.

CROP DENSITY AND IRRIGATION WITH SALINE WATER

1983
The economic implications of plant density for irrigation water use under saline conditions are investigated, utilizing the involved physical and biological relationships. The analysis considers a single crop and is applied to cotton data. The results suggest that treating plant density as an endogenous control variable has substantial impact on ...

Response of Sunflowers to Quantities of Irrigation Water, Irrigation Regimes and Salinities in the Water and Soil

Journal of Crop Production, 2000
Summary The production of sunflower grains for roasting was investigated in two soil types under different quantities of applied saline and non-saline irrigation water, different irrigation managements, soil salinity due to previous use of saline water or due to a raised water table.
