An Unusually Large Submandibular Salivary Stone
ABSTRACTSialolithiasis is a condition where a calcified mass forms within a salivary gland, most commonly in the duct of the submandibular gland. Commonly sialoliths measure from 5 to 10 mm in size and stones over 10 mm can be reported as sialoliths of unusual size. They rarely measure more than 15 mm.

Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy and X-Ray Diffraction Analyses of Human Salivary Stones [PDF]
Ten salivary stones in the human submandibular gland were investigated by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction analyses. The stones usually showed a lamellar pattern.
