Soil legacy effects on a temperate tree species depend on the mycorrhizal types and phylogenetic distance of the conditioning trees

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Associations of trees with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) and ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi often shape distinct microbial communities in soils. Whether this distinction can create different soil legacies and to what extent such legacies are correlated to phylogenetic ...

On The Big Challenges of a Small Shrub [Elektronisk resurs] : Ecological Genetics of Salix herbacea L

open access: yes, 2015
The response of plants to climate change is among the main questions in ecology and evolution. Faced with changing conditions, populations may respond by adapting, going extinct or migrating.

A comparative analysis of the rhizosphere microbial communities among three species of the Salix genus [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Rhizosphere microorganisms exert a significant influence in counteracting diverse external stresses and facilitating plant nutrient uptake. While certain rhizosphere microorganisms associated with Salix species have been investigated, numerous ...

Warm Spring Weather Alters Calling Phenology of Four Sympatric Early‐Breeding Anurans

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
An unusually warm March in 2024 (“false spring”) followed by freezing temperatures allowed us to assess the impact of a weather event on an amphibian community. The calling activity of all four species was associated with increasing temperature, and the first date of calling was advanced by 11–18 days.

Simulation of root water uptake in Mu Us Sandy Land based on deep learning

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan
The root water uptake process is a key link in the hydrological process within a continuous groundwater-soil-vegetation-atmosphere system. However, the limitations of traditional methods such as experiments and numerical simulations still lead to great ...

Assessing the host plants of the invasive apricot aphid, Myzus mumecola (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We investigated the host plants of the invasive apricot aphid Myzus mumecola (Hemiptera: Aphididae), an emerging pest species in Europe, by combining molecular and ecological approaches. The winter host plant was confirmed as apricot by both methods.

A new species of Melampsora rust on Salix elbursensis from Iran

open access: yes, 2010
A rust fungus was found causing stem cankers on 1- to 5-year-old stems of Salix elbursensis in the north west of Iran. The rust also forms uredinia on leaves and flowers of the host willow.
