Study of riparian forest and scrub vegetation of the Zalomka and Upper Neretva Rivers (Bosnia and Herzegovina) [PDF]

open access: yesNatura Sloveniae
This study investigates the riparian forest and scrub vegetation along the Zalomka and Upper Neretva rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Despite the ecological significance of these rivers’ riparian zones, they remain underexplored, particularly ...

Classification of forest and shrubland vegetation in central and eastern Euxine Turkey and SW Georgia

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 26, Issue 4, October/December 2023., 2023
Central and eastern Euxine Turkey and SW Georgia, part of the Caucasus biodiversity hotspot, display a high vegetation diversity with 29 different forest and shrubland vegetation types. This vegetation diversity not only indicates the importance of the region in terms of nature conservation but also the reference value in restoration studies and ...

Riparian ecosystems mapping at fine scale: a density approach based on multi‐temporal UAV photogrammetric point clouds

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 644-655, October 2022., 2022
Mapping riparian corridors requires fine‐scale resolution but also the coverage of relatively large areas. The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) allows meeting both conditions, although the cost‐effectiveness of their use is highly influenced by the type of sensor mounted on them.

Calculation of the ovule number in the genus Salix: A method for taxa differentiation

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, Volume 9, Issue 11-12, November-December 2021., 2021
Abstract Premise Recent investigations have demonstrated that the number of ovules present in the ovaries of the willow flower (Salix spp., Salicaceae) can be used to confirm the identification of species and hybrids. We present the method to calculate the ovule number, along with examples demonstrating its use for both species and hybrid verification.

Biological Flora of the British Isles: Crataegus monogyna

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 109, Issue 1, Page 541-571, January 2021., 2021
Crataegus monogyna is a shrub or small tree native to almost the whole of Britain, and to Europe generally excepting its northern and southern margins. Hawthorn has a wide ecological range and is an important component of hedges. It can colonize derelict or abandoned arable land forming dense scrub and thicket.

Extending the conceptual model of river island development to incorporate different tree species and environmental conditions

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 36, Issue 8, Page 1730-1747, October 2020., 2020
Abstract Riparian vegetation survival and establishment in gravel‐bed rivers depends on the balance between vegetation growth and flood disturbance. We present four examples of vegetation and landform development in gaps (linear open spaces) between established islands and/or floodplain within a reach of the middle Tagliamento River, Italy.

RAD sequencing resolved phylogenetic relationships in European shrub willows (Salix L. subg. Chamaetia and subg. Vetrix) and revealed multiple evolution of dwarf shrubs

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 8, Issue 16, Page 8243-8255, August 2018., 2018
The infrageneric relationships in shrub willows (Salix L.) were remained unresolved using traditional sequencing markers. We used highly informative RAD sequencing markers to overcome the lack of information and reveal relationships within the two subgenera Chamaetia and Vetrix.

Divergence in Defence against Herbivores between Males and Females of Dioecious Plant Species

open access: yesInternational Journal of Evolutionary Biology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Defensive traits may evolve differently between sexes in dioecious plant species. Our current understanding of this process hinges on a partial view of the evolution of resistance traits that may result in male‐biased herbivory in dioecious populations.
