WHEN SALMON and Smith, in 1885, first isolated the organism they considered the causative agent of hog cholera, salmonellosis was regarded primarily as a disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Since then, considerable evidence has been accumulated indicating that there are other, equally important, clinical manifestations of this disease, and now, with

Salmonella Derby Contamination of Eggs from Inoculated Hens
Journal of Food Science, 1965SUMMARY Twelve hens were inoculated weekly for 11 weeks with Salmonella derby in peptone water. Another 12 were fed continuously on feed which had been contaminated with Salmonella derby. Another group of birds served as controls. Both the shell surface and interior of 2 eggs per bird each week were examined for salmonellae.

Salmonella derby cross-protection study.
Veterinary therapeutics : research in applied veterinary medicine, 2009An avirulent live (AVL), Salmonella choleraesuis vaccine (Salmo Shield Live [Grand Laboratories, Inc.]) was administered to pigs at weaning or 3 weeks of age. Two weeks after vaccination the vaccinated pigs as well as unvaccinated control pigs were challenged intranasally with a commonly isolated environmental Salmonella serotype, S. derby.

OSTEOMYELITIS CAUSED BYSALMONELLA ENTERICASEROVAR DERBY IN BOA CONSTRICTOR
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2014After demonstrating chronic weight loss, prostration, and muscle flaccidness, a captive-bred 9-mo-old boa constrictor (Boa constrictor constrictor) died and was submitted for necropsy. Along the spinal column there were multiple, yellowish white, macroscopic nodules of 1-5 mm in diameter in the ventral side of the vertebral body and in the ...

Molecular Epidemiological Analysis of Salmonella enterica Serotype Derby Infections in Hong Kong
Journal of Infection, 2001We aimed to study the antimicrobial susceptibilities and molecular epidemiology of Salmonella enterica serotype Derby, a unique and common salmonella serotype in Hong Kong.Salmonella Derby strains isolated from stools of patients in a large general hospital in Hong Kong from 1989 to 1994 and from food samples isolated in the Public Health Laboratory ...

The plasmidome of a Salmonella enterica serovar Derby isolated from pork meat
Plasmid, 2013The complete nucleotide sequences of four plasmids hosted by a Salmonella enterica serovar. Derby strain 6MK1 isolated from pork were determined by shotgun Sanger sequencing. A 107,637 base pairs (bp) conjugative plasmid pSD107 containing 150 putative coding sequences (CDS) could be assigned to the narrow host range incompatibility group IncI1.

In the process of studying phage--Salmonella derby plasmid interaction effect, it has been found that the absence of the plasmid blocks the adsorption step and the step of phage penetration into the cell. However, the lytic functions and those responsible in maintenance of the lysogenic state are independent of plasmid.
