Salmonella chemoreceptors McpB and McpC mediate a repellent response to L-cystine: a potential mechanism to avoid oxidative conditions [PDF]

open access: yesLazova, M. D., Butler, M. T., Shimizu, T. S., and Harshey, R. M., Salmonella chemoreceptors McpB and McpC mediate a repellent response to L-cystine: a potential mechanism to avoid oxidative conditions. Mol Microbiol 84 (4), 697 (2012), 2013
Chemoreceptors McpB and McpC in Salmonella enterica have been reported to promote chemotaxis in LB motility-plate assays. Of the chemicals tested as potential effectors of these receptors, the only response was towards L-cysteine and its oxidized form, L-cystine.

Examining marginal sequence similarities between bacterial type III secretion system and Trypanosoma cruzi surface proteins: Horizontal gene transfer or convergent evolution? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The cell invasion mechanism of Trypanosoma cruzi has similarities with some intracellular bacterial taxa especially regarding calcium mobilization. This mechanism is not observed in other trypanosomatids, suggesting that the molecules involved in this type of cell invasion were a product of (1) acquired by horizontal gene transfer; (2) secondary loss ...

Vine Tea Extract Enhanced the Fermentation of Skimmed Milk by Lacticaseibacillus casei

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 12, Issue 11, Page 9664-9672, November 2024.
Vine tea was first added to skimmed milk fermented with Lacticaseibacillus casei. 2 mg/mL vine tea extract could improve the fermentation characters and functionality of dairy products. Addition of VTE maintained highly viable L. casei and stable pH during storage.
