Assessment of Bacterial Accumulation and Environmental Factors in Sentinel Oysters and Estuarine Water Quality from the Phang Nga Estuary Area in Thailand. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This study characterized microbiological and chemical contamination of oyster meat and estuarine water in Phang Nga, Thailand. Pooled oyster meats (n = 144), estuarine waters (n = 96) and environmental parameters were collected from March, 2016 to ...

A rapid molecular approach to determining the occurrence of pathogen indicators in compost [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
An accurate method for enumerating pathogen indicators, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Salmonella spp. is important for assessing the safety of compost samples. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of pathogen indicators in compost samples by using a molecular approach known as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).

Neutral genomic microevolution of a recently emerged pathogen, salmonella enterica serovar agona [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Salmonella enterica serovar Agona has caused multiple food-borne outbreaks of gastroenteritis since it was first isolated in 1952. We analyzed the genomes of 73 isolates from global sources, comparing five distinct outbreaks with sporadic infections as

Resistance to carbapenems in non-typhoidal Salmonella enterica serovars from humans, animals and food [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Non-typhoidal serovars of Salmonella enterica (NTS) are a leading cause of food-borne disease in animals and humans worldwide. Like other zoonotic bacteria, NTS have the potential to act as reservoirs and vehicles for the transmission of antimicrobial ...

Isolation, Characterization and In vivo Evaluation of Therapeutic Potential of Bacteriophage Sal11TP against Salmonella enterica Serovar Paratyphi A

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology
Salmonella Paratyphi A, also known as typhoidal Salmonella, is the causative agent of typhoid fever or paratyphoid fever, a threatening, invasive (bacteraemia), and occasionally fatal human disease (also called enteric fever).

The Structural Biology and Critical Evaluation of Bacterial Proteases as Targets in New Drug Design [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Bacteria produce a range of proteolytic enzymes, for which a number human equivalent or structurally similar examples exist and the primary focus of this study was to analyse the published literature to find proteolytic enzymes, specifically endoproteses and to examine the similarity in the substrates that they act on so as to predict a suitable ...

Accurate inference in negative binomial regression [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Negative binomial regression is commonly employed to analyze overdispersed count data. With small to moderate sample sizes, the maximum likelihood estimator of the dispersion parameter may be subject to a significant bias, that in turn affects inference on mean parameters.

Aquariums as Reservoirs for Multidrug-resistantSalmonellaParatyphi B

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi B dT+ isolates from patients with gastroenteritis were identical with isolates from their home aquariums. Matched isolates had identical phage types, XbaI and IS200 profiles, and Salmonella genomic island 1 (SGI1). Ornamental fish tanks are reservoirs for SGI1-containing S. Paratyphi B dT+.
