Whereas typhoid fever is still an endemic disease in some parts of the world, meningeal involvement in this disease is a rare occurrence. We report a case of Salmonella typhi meningitis in a 70-year-old woman. The patient was treated with ampicillin and the only sequela was right-sided deafness.

Salmonella typhi osteomyelitis
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1994Salmonella infections in man can be divided in five clinical groups: enteric fever, septicaemia without localization, focal disease, gastroenteritis and the carrier state. Salmonella typhi is mostly associated with enteric fever and the carrier state. Bone infections due to S. typhi have been reported relatively seldom. They usually occur as the result

We report on five patients with Salmonella typhi spondylitis who were immunologically normal and had no prodromal gastrointestinal illness. The diagnosis was confirmed on blood cultures, Widal test, and needle biopsy of the spine. Appropriate antibiotic treatment resulted in a favorable outcome.

Non-typhi Salmonella bacteraemia
Infection, 1989We reviewed retrospectively the clinical records of patients with non-typhi Salmonella bacteraemia in our hospital from 1979 to 1988. During the study period 45 non-typhi Salmonella bacteraemias were diagnosed in 43 patients. Ten patients were under one year old and 11 were over 60. Seven cases of sepsis presented in patients with AIDS.

Salmonella typhi sternal wound infection
American Journal of Infection Control, 2013Samonella typhi usually causes gastrointestinal infections. Few reports in the literature described skin and soft tissue infections related to Salmonella species, especially in immunocompetent patients. Our case exhibited sternal abscess growing Salmonella typhi.

Salmonella Typhi Murium in Penguins
Journal of Comparative Pathology and Therapeutics, 1947Summary An outbreak of apparently infectious disease among penguins is described. Salmonella typhi murium was isolated from some of the penguins. Two penguins were found to be healthy carriers of the organism. The carriers were successfully treated by large doses of “sulpha” drugs. Penguins can tolerate up to 1 g.

Proteomic comparison between Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Typhi
Journal of Microbiology, 2014The genus Salmonella contains more than 2500 serovars. While most cause the self-limiting gastroenteritis, a few serovars can elicit typhoid fever, a severe systemic infection. S. enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium and S. Typhi are the representatives of the gastroenteritis and typhoid fever types of Salmonella.
