Xanthogranulomatous Salpingitis
International Journal of Gynecological Pathology, 2019There are approximately a dozen cases of xanthogranulomatous salpingitis reported in the literature, mostly as case reports. Thirteen such cases were identified from 2003 to 2018 at our institution. Patient’s ages ranged from 21 to 75 yr old (median and mean, 49 yr).

Thiamphenicol for Treatment of Salpingitis
Sexually Transmitted Diseases, 1984During a six-month period, 27 women with acute salpingitis diagnosed by laparoscopy were treated with thiamphenicol. Bacterial cultures and serologic tests for syphilis and Chlamydia trachomatis infection were systematically performed before treatment. Patients were assigned to one of two treatment groups.

The etiology of salpingitis is polymicrobial, however, the particular pathogen is difficult to identify, even in laparoscopically obtained specimens. Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, anaerobes and facultative anaerobic bacteria have to be covered by antimicrobial therapy.

Salpingitis in Ovarian Endometriosis
Fertility and Sterility, 1978A histologic study of 87 cases of ovarian endometriosis with salpingectomy revealed 29 cases (33%) in which the removed fallopian tubes showed chronic salpingitis. Tubal obstruction could be demonstrated in only one of these patients. Tubo-ovarian adhesions were found in 15 patients (17%) and in only 7 of these in association with salpingitis. Although
