The relationship between cause of death and skeletal markers of physiological stress in the Hamann‐Todd collection

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 186, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Objectives Socioeconomic status, past stress events, and other factors may contribute to the cumulative burden of physiological stress, which influences an individual's susceptibility to mortality and cause of death (COD). Here, we explore the association between skeletal evidence of stress and COD in the Hamann‐Todd Osteological Collection ...

Vibrio cholerae Skin and Soft Tissue Infection Complicated by Sepsis in an Immunocompromised Patient: A Rare Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Physicians should consider non‐O1, non‐O139 Vibrio cholerae (NOVC) in the differential diagnosis of cellulitis complicated by sepsis, especially in immunocompromised patients when potential exposure exists. Due to the pathogen's potential for severe infections and rising incidence from environmental changes, we emphasize the need for increased

The physiological role of macrophages in reproductive organs

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, Volume 24, Issue 1, January/December 2025.

Serum copper to zinc ratio and risk of endometriosis: Insights from a case–control study in infertile patients

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, Volume 24, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
The study investigated the correlation between trace metal elements and the risk of endometriosis in 568 infertile patients diagnosed with endometriosis, compared to 819 infertile patients without endometriosis (Control). Findings demonstrated a notable decrease in Zn levels and an elevated Cu/Zn ratio in the endometriosis group.

Brevibacterium casei: A Rare Cause of Peritoneal Dialysis‐Associated Peritonitis

open access: yesCase Reports in Nephrology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Peritonitis is an important complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD), affecting up to 40% of patients at some point of their PD treatment. Here, we describe a case of PD‐associated peritonitis due to an unusual pathogen, Brevibacterium casei. The patient was treated with intraperitoneal antibiotics, successfully preserving the PD catheter.
