Lifetime of the Gas Evolution Electrode of the Zn–H2 Storage System

open access: yesFuel Cells, Volume 26, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT A novel electrically chargeable galvanic system is presented that efficiently stores energy in the form of zinc and releases hydrogen and electricity upon discharge. In this concept, oxygen is released at the gas electrode during charging, and zinc oxide is reduced to metallic zinc at the counter electrode.

Research on the Stability and Treatments of Natural Gas Storage Caverns With Different Shapes in Bedded Salt Rocks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Because of complex geo-conditions, many caverns by solution mining in bedded salt rocks have different irregular shapes. To verify the feasibility of using irregular-shaped caverns for underground gas storage (UGS), four typical cavern-shapes are ...

Saltier Than Expected – Small Brine Discharge Increases Salt Intrusion in the Tidal Ems Estuary, North Sea

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract This study investigates the long‐term salinity dynamics of the partially mixed Ems Estuary, focusing on the influence of brine inflow on salt intrusion. Salinity time series from eight monitoring sites (2000–2023) were analyzed to assess variations due to river discharge and brine inflow from two injection sites.

Pathways to a Fully Renewable Energy System in Iran: A Scenario‐Based Analysis Across Power, Heat, Transport, Industry and Desalination

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study assesses three transition pathways for Iran's energy system to 2050. Only the best policy scenario (BPS) achieves 100% renewables, with over 93% of primary energy from solar photovoltaics, extensive storage, and power‐to‐X technologies. In the BPS, CO2 emissions fall to zero and the levelised cost of electricity declines to €24.7/MWh by 2050.
